United States at Highest Rate of Poverty

United States at Highest Rate of Poverty
If you didn’t already know how difficult times are in this country, here’s some really bad news…according to Census figures that were released this week, in 2010 we have more Americans living in poverty than at any other time (at the very least, since the 1950’s).

In just a year, we have seen the poverty rate jump 6% to what is now 15.1%. It is also believed to be a rate that is climbing. Not good news at all.

A lack of employment and the struggling economy has led to the increase in poverty. And in addition, we have also seen the number of uninsured people to be at its highest in the past 20 years, up to 49.9 million. Yes, times are bad.

Under Obama’s leadership, we have seen the unemployment rate stand at 9.1% in August. Meanwhile he is attempting to push legislation (American Jobs Act), in the hopes of getting more Americans working again. The problem is that this is nothing more than a stimulus plan and he has yet to tell us how it will be paid for.

In the past few days I have heard the phrase, “pass the bill” so many times my head is spinning. Pass it…just pass it. Don’t ask questions, don’t be concerned with details, just pass it. Sounds familiar…isn’t that what Nancy Pelosi wanted us to do with healthcare? Just pass it and we would find out the details later on? Well I have some news for President Obama; it’s not going to be passed.

Some of the details in this act are good ones. But good ideas don’t get you anywhere unless you have a way to make them happen. And without the money to do it, I can’t see how it will help.

He is also back to the whole idea of taxing the rich and alluded to the fact that it’s not fair they aren’t putting in their share. But how about the approximately 42% of Americans who don’t pay ANY taxes? When are they going to contribute their fair share?

So we are a nation who is seeing its highest rates in poverty, we are facing long-term unemployment and many without health insurance. Yet we are somehow supposed to afford funding the American Jobs Act when our nation is in debt.

I hate to sound so pessimistic but I don’t see how we can recover at this point. Obama hasn’t come up with anything new, no workable plans on how to get us out of this mess. He is trying to take this new jobs act and politicize it. While he accuses the other side of this, we know that if it isn’t passed he will use that against the GOP…blaming them for not wanting to see Americans working again.

Everyone wants to see the economy improved and people working. But spending more money isn’t the way to do it.
